Blog stage 8

In the blog, "Trump tax reform: Good or bad?", my classmate Jessica stated some facts regarding the presidents plan towards the new tax policy. Giving different facts, my classmate made it clear that Trumps tax reform looks to benefit the wealthy people and hurt those who has less income. I completely agree with that statement since I think trumps lack of paying federal taxes in the past could only mean his new plan will be something that benefits wealthy people who has big businesses. I believe the problem with electing a president who is really wealthy is that the president can lack in representing the low-income community and only benefit those whose income is at his level. I say this because all or most of his new plans seems to have less advantage on people that can't afford it. It seems to be more reasonable to say that those people who have more should have to pay more taxes since it won't hurt them.

Original Commentary #2

One of the concerning issues trending in the united states is the miscommunication between police officers and the citizens. This has been a a big issue especially since the shooting of Michel Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. A lot of citizens are distancing from police officers and questioning whether or not if they're doing their job properly. This is risky for both police officers and the citizens concerning their safety since it has put a big gap between each other. To avoid this, people across the nation have been trying to protest to get some attention so the situation can be better be dealt with.
By signing a petition, one requirement that the citizens are seeking is for police officers to wear body cameras. This made some officers to be under pressure and required them to be very cautious in their actions so they won't be blamed. Even though I think this idea of having body cameras for police officers can be very beneficial for everyone, it could be a bit costly. This means the government has to purchase a body camera for every single officer in the united states which could be too expensive. That's why I believe for the safety of their own, police officers should purchase their own body cameras. They will have the evidence that they need in any accusation that comes against them. It wouldn't hurt them to pay for those cameras since their safety has to come first. I strongly believe that this could at least reduce the citizens' complaints against the police and also reduce the police use of force against the citizens.

Commentary #1

I strongly agree with my classmates blog "freedoms press"in his writing "Blog stage 5". My classmate expressed their feeling towards unequal treatment of people separated by either gender or race. Although we are now at a time period where we can safely say that it is much better than before, it is not still equal. Sex discrimination still holds in the U.S, and it is mostly affecting women's whether it is at finding a job or are currently employed. There is no fact of men working harder than women or, women's not being able to complete men's work. My classmate used different reasons and facts to support their arguments.

Original Editorial

One of the main concerning Issues in the United States is obesity. In fact, according to the CDC an average adult is 26 pounds heavier now than in the 1950's. This may seem like there is nothing that the government can do to prevent or lower the rate of obesity, however the government have power that could help to lower obesity rate in the united states. You see, there aren't healthy places as much as there are fast food places. In these case, one hungry person will be convinced to go buy from a fast food place and since it's a closer distance and cheaper. Where I live in, I'm surrounded with lots of fast food places and requires a bit of driving around to find a decent restaurant that provides healthy meals. One of the big reasons that leads to obesity is the lack of information or education. This is where governments role comes in, the government can encourage schools to educate students well on the benefit of some healthy foods. The government could also force the fast food companies to show of the calories in their food because a lot of people don't know what they really are consuming. It's sometimes hard to blame the eater for being obese because we know even though schools teaches students not to eat or consume junk foods, they end up selling or provide junk foods at the school cafeteria.I feel like there should be an encouragement of eating more healthy foods. Schools and fast food companies should shoe the exact calories on the packaging of their food so people can be aware. For example, I know a friend who eats junk food regularly but always gets water for his drink because he is a afraid of the grams of sugar that was in the soda. This clearly shows that he is unaware of the information on what he was eating and didn't really care about what he was consuming because there was no label on the foods. Even though it is impossible for the government to make these companies stop operating, it can at least force these companies to provide labels for their customers. We may see a decreasing rate of obese people with these decisions and the government shouldn't be silent in these kind of situation.

Critiquing of an authors editorial

In these article, Albert Teich gave his thoughts on trumps new policy and his new travel-ban policy. He is a research professor of science, technology and international affairs, this might mean that he gets to be connected with people who are foreigners. His main concern is that, the new travel-ban policy might keep a lot of scientist who are foreigners, from making a long term plans in the United States. It looks like, it is getting more difficult for people to go in and out of the country which limits not only these students and scientist but also a lot of people who could really benefit these country. Listing different successful famous tech companies like, "Google, eBay and Apple", Albert wanted to address the importance of foreigners and how beneficial they could one day be.
I am a foreigner my self so I know how much fear it gives me to hear that a law could be passed and could potentially not allow me back in the country. Although this policy affecting only few countries for now, I believe that with Trumps strategy, this could soon be official to everyone else. This could also weaken the relationship that the United States has with other countries. I agree with Alberts' point because just like him, I also believe that, when we are trying the bad ones from interring this country, there is also a high chance that we are also keeping away people that could have benefited the U.S in many ways. The authors' intended audience are basically the policy makers that stood by Trumps decision and he is telling them to not ignore the cons of not bringing foreigners into the country. To support his argument, he used his job as one of the reason why he believes many people in his field are being affected by this policy. He also stated big names whose companies are owned by foreigners to elaborate the importance of foreigners in the country.

Critiquing of an author

According to Dan Mangan, on "CNBC", there was a decrease number of voters who opposed to Obamacare. In his article, Dan mentioned that president trump among other republicans in the congress wanted to repeal Obamacare and replace it with a new health-care. However, this might upset a lot of people who are currently insured with Obamacare and can not afford to pay out of pocket. Dan stated for a fact that, "a total of 45% registered voters say they approve of Obamacare, compared to 45% who oppose the law." That leaves the other 10% undecided whom could be on either side.
The Affordable Care Act "ACA" has benefited a lot of Americans by providing insurance to help them get necessary treatment for almost at no cost. I am currently insured with Obamacare and it has helped me a lot. I know I wouldn't be able to afford paying for my health cost if I didn't have any insurance. I take three different kind of medicine to help me with my symptoms and one of the medicine costs a little over $2,000 and needs to be refilled every month. The medicine is really important for me and without it I would really struggle to stay healthy. This is why I am so thankful for having an insurance pay for my medicines and hospital bills. For a fact, Dan stated that "Obamacare supporters retort that the law has expanded coverage to 20 million Americans." Dan gave short and clear understanding on approximately how many people could get affected by trumps idea and he provided different facts from different collected data.

Trumps Immigration Policy

In this Article, we can look at one of the trending topic that has feared a lot of people.Especially Immigrants or people that are unlucky enough to get their papers or documents. All though,  some of the rules has not changed from the past, Immigrants are obviously being chased to get deported back to their country.Which is why most Immigrants try to run away from the US Immigration as much as they can. This is not the case for a 35 years old, Mexican immigrant.
A mother of Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos, was deported to Mexico after she checked in with the U.S Immigration. Despite being warned by many to not go to the U.S Immigration, she still does anyways without hesitation which was the result of her deportation. She was thinking that her visit would be the same as her previous visits where after she was done, she was allowed to go back to her family. And even though the U.S  Immigration think there is nothing special about this case, her attorney believes that "the deportation was a direct result of President Donald Trump's crackdown on illegal immigration." After her deportation, Garcia de Rayos stated that she knew how risky it was to go to the Immigration but, she wanted to show and be an example for others to be aware. Her kids went on a protest in phenix arizona, but the mother is already located in Mexico's Immigration and she is allowed to meet with her family, if they come to visit her there.
