Original Editorial

One of the main concerning Issues in the United States is obesity. In fact, according to the CDC an average adult is 26 pounds heavier now than in the 1950's. This may seem like there is nothing that the government can do to prevent or lower the rate of obesity, however the government have power that could help to lower obesity rate in the united states. You see, there aren't healthy places as much as there are fast food places. In these case, one hungry person will be convinced to go buy from a fast food place and since it's a closer distance and cheaper. Where I live in, I'm surrounded with lots of fast food places and requires a bit of driving around to find a decent restaurant that provides healthy meals. One of the big reasons that leads to obesity is the lack of information or education. This is where governments role comes in, the government can encourage schools to educate students well on the benefit of some healthy foods. The government could also force the fast food companies to show of the calories in their food because a lot of people don't know what they really are consuming. It's sometimes hard to blame the eater for being obese because we know even though schools teaches students not to eat or consume junk foods, they end up selling or provide junk foods at the school cafeteria.I feel like there should be an encouragement of eating more healthy foods. Schools and fast food companies should shoe the exact calories on the packaging of their food so people can be aware. For example, I know a friend who eats junk food regularly but always gets water for his drink because he is a afraid of the grams of sugar that was in the soda. This clearly shows that he is unaware of the information on what he was eating and didn't really care about what he was consuming because there was no label on the foods. Even though it is impossible for the government to make these companies stop operating, it can at least force these companies to provide labels for their customers. We may see a decreasing rate of obese people with these decisions and the government shouldn't be silent in these kind of situation.

Critiquing of an authors editorial

In these article, Albert Teich gave his thoughts on trumps new policy and his new travel-ban policy. He is a research professor of science, technology and international affairs, this might mean that he gets to be connected with people who are foreigners. His main concern is that, the new travel-ban policy might keep a lot of scientist who are foreigners, from making a long term plans in the United States. It looks like, it is getting more difficult for people to go in and out of the country which limits not only these students and scientist but also a lot of people who could really benefit these country. Listing different successful famous tech companies like, "Google, eBay and Apple", Albert wanted to address the importance of foreigners and how beneficial they could one day be.
I am a foreigner my self so I know how much fear it gives me to hear that a law could be passed and could potentially not allow me back in the country. Although this policy affecting only few countries for now, I believe that with Trumps strategy, this could soon be official to everyone else. This could also weaken the relationship that the United States has with other countries. I agree with Alberts' point because just like him, I also believe that, when we are trying the bad ones from interring this country, there is also a high chance that we are also keeping away people that could have benefited the U.S in many ways. The authors' intended audience are basically the policy makers that stood by Trumps decision and he is telling them to not ignore the cons of not bringing foreigners into the country. To support his argument, he used his job as one of the reason why he believes many people in his field are being affected by this policy. He also stated big names whose companies are owned by foreigners to elaborate the importance of foreigners in the country.
